Prayer Network

The Pallottine Prayer Network consists of a group of men and women, young and old, lay and religious, willing to set aside a few minutes each day to pray for the needs of people, the Church and the world.

   For Christian Unity

It sounds like a term from the 1970's or 1980's when, in the aftermath of Vatican II, there was much talk about ecumenism and Christian unity.

The words are still here in 2008; the Pope continue to make his overtures to the different Christian and Orthodox churches; neighboring Christian and Catholic churches still hold joint prayer services now and then.  Efforts and progress are being made.  Yet, in our TV and newspaper headline world, once these "religion" type matters are out of the limelight, they rapidly fade from our minds as well.  I hate to see that happen.

Imagine a world in which all followers of Christ could work and pray together.  How much good could be done for all the peoples of the world.  Imagine how many wars and resentments among people simply would no longer exist.  What a world that would be!

Let us pray for Christian Unity, for the more we can work and be together, the better we can follow in the footsteps of our Savior.

For Christian Unity

L. The early Christians met in their homes for
    the breaking of the bread,
R. And were looked up to by everyone.
    (Acts 2:42-47)

Lord, how far we have drifted from the unity that existed in those early days of the Christian community.  In the course of the centuries great divisions have arisen among those who put their faith in You.

You fulfilled your promise to your apostles and sent the Holy Spirit to guide and protect the Church.  May that same Spirit reenkindle the fire of unity among all Christians.

Help us strip away years of animosity and distrust among us and seek ways to dialogue and pray together.  Lead us to look beyond past mistakes and hurt feelings so that we can work toward reaffirming our common heritage and commitment to Christ.

Lord, be with us as we make this journey toward Christian unity so that your Church will once again shine as that one beacon calling all people back to the Father.

We ask this in your name.  Amen.
